Literary Event The Girl With all the Gifts. An exciting event with author Mike Carey that features zombies in Finchley! Dramatization of scenes from Mike Carey's spectacular book. The second half of this event sees J.P.O'Malley join us to interview Mike. More details coming soon. No charge but we would appreciate donations to help keep the zombies under control.

Thursday 21st May

12.00-2.00pm Friern Barnet Library, Friern Barnet Road, N11 3DS.
Workshop Sun, Moon and Planets. Allen Ashley leads a poetry workshop with an astronomy theme. Aimed at writers of all levels, Allen will inspire writings of poetry and flash fiction. Allen will also read from his latest poetry collection.

Author event: Antonia Honeywell, whose novel, The Ship, has just been published, reads extracts and answers questions about her writing.

Author event: Jen Campbell, author of Weird Things People Say in Bookshops, More Weird Things People Say in Bookshops and The Bookshop Book, will be here to give the info on what goes on in bookshops. Jen works at an antiquarian bookshop in North London.

The Library Debate: In the library that was rescued from closure and is now run by the community, join us for a lively panel discussion on the role of libraries. Libraries are under threat locally and across the UK. We discuss just what libraries are for and who they are for? Can we mange without them? No charge but donations to help fund the library appreciated.

Friday 22nd May.

Author event: Duncan Barrett & Nuala Calvi talk about their latest book The Girls Who Went to War. Their previous books include The Sugar Girls and GI Brides

3.00-500pm Meet at Finchley Central tube station.
Literary Walk: led by Paul Baker. Two miles from Finchley Central to East Finchley, Paul will take us past a number of Finchley's literary connections with lots of information.  

6.00-7.30pm North Finchley Library, Ravensdale Avenue, N12 9HP
Literary Slideshow: Mike Gee shows you Finchley's secret green spaces with readings. No charge. No need to book but come early to secure a seat.

Workshop: Writing for Wellbeing. Andi Michael leads a writing workshop suitable for beginners and more experienced writers alike.

Workshop: Lindsay Bamfield's 'Practical Voice Skills for Writers' for writers who wish to improve their vocal skills when reading aloud at literary events. £12.00 Booking required

Workshop: 'Populating Fantasy.' Katie Alford, author of Atlantis and The Game of Time, gives you a guide to writing fantasy fiction. No charge.

Author event: Young adult fiction (ages 12-15+) Alex Wheatle talks about his acclaimed new YA novel Liccle Bit. He is joined by local authors Savita Kalhan and Ellie Daines. Turn up to meet the authors and hear some extracts from their books.

2.00pm-4.00pm North Finchely Library, Ravensdale Avenue, N12 9HP
Workshop: 'Murder in the Library' with Pearse and Black. The only weapons allowed in this creative writing workshop are pen and paper.

7.00-9.00pm Café Buzz, 783 High Road, N12 8JY
Poetry & Music Palooza: Join Anna Meryt and friends for an evening of performance poetry and music at Finchley's literary café. No need to book but come early if you want a seat!

Sunday 24th May

11.30-1.30pm Meet at West Finchley Tube Station.
Literary Walk: The Walking Writer is a walk and workshop combined. Rosie Canning leads you through some of Finchley's green spaces with stops for writing and literary readings. No need to book. 

5.00-700pm Café Buzz, 783 High Road, N12 8JY.
A celebration of local writers: Local writers and guests read short extracts from their novels, and a poem here and there, in the informal and friendly atmosphere of FLF's favourite literary café that boasts a great cup of coffee and refreshments. Here is our amazing line-up
